VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS AND LOCAL CLUBS
ROWDEFORD CHARITY TRUST
This local charity (Registered Charity No 1088605) was set up in September 2001 to advance education for children with disabilities and special needs, especially by developing, renovating and conserving the buildings and grounds of Rowdeford School. Facilities are provided for children with complex learning difficulties, including autism, and the first significant success was the restoration of the Victorian walled garden for work experience in horticulture. Much has been done since then – most notably the creation of an Arts Centre by restoring the derelict (and dangerous) Coach House. This is now a staggeringly beautiful building, inspiring pupils and having great potential for use by the local community. It can be booked as a venue for performing arts, displays and conferences through the School Reception (01380 8503090).
There are opportunities for volunteers to participate in fundraising activities, such as the annual Rowdeford Garden Fair. Proceeds this year (the fifth Fair) were £10,000 and helped to equip the Arts Centre. Next year it will be held on Sunday 22nd May and we hope to repeat the success of last year’s Autumn Country Fair in September 2011.
Full details of all activities can be found on the website:
