VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS AND LOCAL CLUBS

TUESDAY AFTERNOON CLUB
The Tuesday Afternoon Club was formed many years ago and was then known as the Over 60s. It was continued successfully until a few years ago when membership fell to just a few. A meeting was called and so that the Club did not close several people came forward and the Club was 're-born'. It now has a membership of 26 and meets the 1st Tuesday in the month at 2.30 - 4pm in winter, and 2.30-4.30pm in the summer in the village hall.
At most meetings there is a birthday to be celebrated with cake and a 'tot' followed by speakers, slide shows, card bingo and whist etc as well as meals out and garden parties. There is also a raffle to which all bring a small prize.
More information can be obtained from Mrs D Ellis, Secretary / Treasurer on 01380 722655.

BINGO
The weekly Bingo session is held each Monday at 8pm in the Village Hall and has been running for many years and enjoyed by approx. 40 people each week.
The Bingo is organised by the Village Hall Committee in aid of Village Hall funds, but run by the Bingo players themselves. Refreshments are served at half-time and there is also a raffle.
Please contact Mrs Di Buckland on 01380 723049 for further information.

ROWDE LADIES CLUB
The Rowde Ladies Club was started nearly forty years ago by the then Vicar's wife as a Young Wives Group. Over the years, we have all aged and so changed our name!
We are a very informal group and are not attached to any other governing 'body'. At present, membership stands at about 25 with most members in the 50-70 age group.
Our meetings are held on the last Tuesday of the month at 8pm mainly in the Rowde Village Hall and our programme consists of speakers, slide shows, garden parties, dinners etc. We also help at various events in the village.
For further information please ring 01380 723049

ROWDE GARDENING CLUB
The club was set up in 2000 following an idea by enthusiastic local village gardeners.
We meet on the second tuesday of the month, usually at C.A.R.E, Rowde, at 7.30pm, but sometimes venture out for a hands on evening at a local garden centre, or a visit to one of the lovely gardens we are lucky enough to have on our doorstep; notably the restored Victorian Walled garden and beautiful grounds of Rowdeford School. We have even visited Highgrove Garden.

Topics covered by our speakers vary widely, covering all aspects of gardening, from what to do when, and how to acheive delicious crops and spectacular flowers; to evenings of relaxation with audio-visual presentations of flora and fauna and beautiful places to visit here and abroad. Having Lackham College nearby, we are able to benefit from the expertise of the staff. Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is based in Devizes, as is Kennet Council, with advice on composting and caring for the environment. We hold an annual show with classes for all. There is always time to chat, with a cup of coffee and a raffle. Membership is £5, with visitors welcome at £1, so whether you are an experienced gardner with a larger plot or allotment, have a new garden to establish or just a fewer patio pots and ijndoor plants, do come along.
You will be very welcome.

All meetings are held at the hall at CARE, Rowde, unless otherwise notified and start at 7.30pm. Visitors are always welcome and are asked to pay £1.00
Speakers subject to change, please check the village magazine or Gazette and Herald.

ST MATTHEW’S FLOWER GUILD
This is a group of approximately thirteen members who aim to provide flowers in our church throughout the year.  The members do not necessarily attend church services on a regular basis, but are a dedicated band of enthusiastic amateurs who enjoy arranging flowers. Most of us have either learnt through the group or some have also attended classes to improve their knowledge and skills.
During my twelve years in the guild we have arranged flowers for all the special festivals in the church calendar, and providing flowers for some thirty weddings.  Although we are a self financing group, traditionally, at Easter, we have asked for donations towards the cost of the flowers, some of which are given as an act of remembrance. We have also created four highly successful and inspirational flower festivals joining with the community to raise funds for the church.
It is important that we recruit more members for our commitments and would welcome any volunteers. Please contact Jacqui Chambers 01380 726650 who is the new head of the guild and organises the rota.
The contacts for weddings and special requests are Liz Ibbetson 01380 720630 and Rosie Berry 01380 722820. The guild charges £100 for wedding arrangements, plus the cost of the flowers.

THE BROMHAM AND ROWDE MONDAY CLUB
The Monday Club was set up in 1984 to provide a community day centre for the elderly and/or housebound residents of Bromhan and Rowde. Membership currently covers an age range of those in their sixties to those in their nineties, and both villages are well represented. The club meets every monday (exept Bank Holidays) in Bromham Social Centre and a two course hot lunch is provided, supplied by the Greyhound pub in Bromham. Afternoons include various activities such as visiting speakers or entertainers, card games, bingo, skittles, quizzes, singalongs etc. Trips out for lunch (on a coach with a lift) occur at times during the year. An important objective of the club is to provide companionship, and the atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming.
Funding is supplied by Wilts County Council, augmented by donations and fund raising (eg. Weekly raffle, annual autumn fair). Age Concern supply a coordinating and advisory role covering a number of day centres, of which the Monday Club is one.
The Club runs from 10.30am to 3.30pm on Mondays, and transport can be provided for anyone who lives within the villages of Rowde or Bromham. Membership is not exclusive to the two villages, but anyone else has to find their own transport.
The current cost per day is £4.00 or £5.30 with transnsport.
The organiser is Claire Ladd who can be contacted for further details on 01380 859166.

HIway CLUB - SELF HELP COMMUNICATION GROUP

THE ROWDE AND BROMHAM THEATRE CLUB
This club has been running for approximately 4 years, and is generally very well supported. We try to arrange a trip about once per quarter, and this a very relaxed way to go to see a show at Bristol, as with a coach from the centre of Rowde, to opposite the Theatre there are no worries about parking etc.

We advertise shows in the Village Magazine, along with details, times, cost etc.
For further info please contact David Rhodes on 01380 725613.

ST MATTHEWS CHURCH CHOIR
Music is an important part of the worship at St Matthews. For most services there is a mixture of traditional and more modern hymns. Once a month there is an Evensong service, where in addition to hymns, psalms are sung. For Family Services, on the first Sunday of each month, the hymns used are simpler and easy for children to join in with. On the fifth Sunday of the month we have just introduced a Songs of Praise service, the aim of which is to feature hymns which people particularly enjoy singing.

The main aim of the choir is to give a lead to the singing in church, and encourage the congregation to join in. However, we usually sing the communion hymn on our own; and often perform an anthem for special occasions. As well as singing for regular services we are often asked to sing at weddings, which we always enjoy.

We are a friendly bunch, and have regular social activities, usually involving food!

Choir practice takes place in the church from 7pm until 8pm on Thursdays in term time. Anyone who is interested in singing with us should ring the choir leader, Nicola Brown on 01380 722406.
