Contacting a GP out of hours (6pm-8am Mon - Fri, 24hrs Saturday and Sunday) Your GP's usual telephone number will have an answerphone message detailing how you can contact a GP out of hours, or you can call the out-of-hours service.You should only use this service if you have a medical problem which cannot wait until the next working day for treatment. They will also help you decide if you need to see a doctor. Their advice is given in complete confidence.NHS Direct You can also get information and advice on any health problem from NHS Direct. This service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They can give you advice on any health problem. They may advise you how to treat the problem yourself, to make an appointment with your GP, or to attend a minor Injury Unit or Emergency Department.
